Mitosis (Root Tip) Lab

Analysis (1a)
1.) Based on the data, an onion root tip spends most of its time in Interphase, followed by Prophase, followed by Telophase, followed by Metaphase and Anaphase. Logically, the cell should spend most of its time in Interphase, for the cell grows and replicates its DNA before entering mitosis. Further, the cell would probably not spend so much time in Metaphase and Anaphase, for the cell does not need as much time for chromosomes to line up along and pull away from the metaphase plate.

Hypothesis (1b)
If an onion is treated with lectin proteins and observed under a microscope, more of teh cells would be observed in mitosis while fewer of the cells would be observed in interphase. PHA-M induces mitosis, so the cells would spend less time in interphase.
